Music Curriculum

St Joseph’s uses the Bishop Chadwick Catholic Education Trust Music Transition Unit from Years 1-6. These carefully planned units ensure that our pupils are ready to access the KS3 Music curriculum once they enter secondary school. Our intent is that every pupil is a musician, developing as a performer, singer and composer; with the ability to listen and to critically analyse music. The National Curriculum is at the heart of the document, developing incremental improvement lesson by lesson and building on the ambition of the Model Music Curriculum.

Although our Music curriculum is planned from Year 1, it begins in EYFS with Being Imaginative and Expressive. Pupils will learn how to sing a range of well known nursery rhymes and songs as well as how to perform songs and rhymes trying to move in time with music
